DO YOU WANT A FALL ELECTION?

Prime Minister Harper says parliament has become “dysfunctional”.  Stephane Dion is consulting with his closest advisors about bringing down the government in September.  The Globe and Mail says we need a federal election “to clear the air.”

More Canadians than ever would seem to agree.  The number of Canadians who say there is no need for an election has dropped to 38 per cent from 66 percent since March.  The number of Canadians who favour a fall election has risen from 27 percent to 40 per cent.

And this despite the fact that a fall election would probably return exactly what we have now, a  Harper minority government.   Today’s poll puts the Conservatives  at 36 per cent,  the Liberals  at  30 percent, the NDP at 14 percent and the Green party  at  10 percent.

In spite of the fact it would likely return a Conservative minority, do you support a fall election?

Yet, this morning, another poll put them 33-34 with a margin of more or less 3% 19 times out of 20. It could go either way. Still the so called winner would still not be the choice of more than 66% of the population. What kind of mandate is that? An election, yes, if it ckears the air and gives a clear mandate to someone, hopefully not the Harper gang.

Polls vary from day to day. We seem to be heading, once more, toward a minority government. Let’s hope it won’t be another Harper government and that the Liberals, if elected, will act like a civilized minority, not the bully that Harper is. So, yes, let’s vote and get it over with.

A funny thing happened. My second posting is the first I sent. It appeared as awaiting moderation…then vanished altogether. I then psted a second one which appeared immediately, then my first one reappeared as a second posting. The repetition is totally unintended.

I don’t know why some comments must await moderation. In any event, I approve of them as soon as I see them.
