Monday is Presidentss Day in the US – a welcome mid-winter holiday between New Years and Easter.
Nothing like it in Canada. We have no holiday between Jan. 1 an d Easter. Why are we so stingy with our winter holidays especially considering lousy weather we have? The truth is we have fewer holidayus than most countries in the world. Are we a nation of masochists? ARE our politicians so lacking in imagination?
Does anybody thi nk we dont deserve a winter ho liday?
How about declaring Valentines day our winter holiday. We could call it National Love Day.
Do you agree we should have a winter h oliday?
What would y ou call it?
I wonder how the famous Presidents’ Day sales will go this year?
I thought we already had a midwinter festival. Don’t we? Didn’t somebody declare it last year or something?
I like the idea of Valentines Day as a holiday Neil. Being the eternal optomist, I always tell my wife that for me, it is the first day of spring.
She always reminds me that a snowstorm is on its way.
Neil,
We do have a holiday–at least in Ontario. It’s Family Day and it’s on Monday. It’ll be a nice break–a chance to get some more work done. Other people are planning of family stuff–go figure.
Please don’t make Valentine’s Day a holiday. It’s just not a fun day for everyone.
Joanne, ” its not a fun day for everyone”, Valentine’s day expresses love, a wise person said that we can reject Religion, we can reject Widsom, but we can’t reject Love and Compassion.
Family Day is a fine idea.
How about “frozen day”, then send a Valentine over to rub my heart.
How about a “Day in front of the TV” holiday?
It would be held on the coldest day of the year and everyone could stay home and curl up in front of the TV with some hot cocoa and watch soap operas all afternoon.
Shouldn’t “Family Day” be everyday?
Man, the family unit has taken a hit!
