Last Friday I was listthening to Bill Moyeodirectly into rs’ Journal. Two highly qualified doctors were making the case for a single payer health system for the United States. It was a strong case. For openers, they pointed out that health ;professionals and the insurance companies are in a constant tug of war. The medical profession wants to help as many patients as they can. The insurance companies want to help as few clients as they can. That’s how they make their profits – billions of profits.
Did you know that if the insurance companies were cut out of the mix there would be an annual saving of $400 billoion dollars. That money could go directly into the ealth care system.
Both doctors favoured a single payer systemn like Canada’s
My experience with the Canadian system is first rate.
I have chosen my own doctor whom I have had for years.
I have access to my local hospital.
I get refferals in a reasonable period of time
Talks of socialized medicine is nonsense. As a matter of fact you could argue the U.S has socialized libraries, socialized police and socialized firemen.
President Obama knows single payer is the oes best deal. Fact is Canada pays about what the US does for health care. O bama should go for the single payer system pronto.
best deal
Neil, be careful. It’s not “nonsense”. Our system is far from adequate. Just because it’s “there” doesn’t mean it’s “great”.
I’ve had both good and nightmarish problems. Moreover, you’re simply not being fair. There are more than enough statistics suggesting our system has massive problems.
To dismiss wanting to improve it as “nonsense” is to deny reality. The truth is our model is NOT something to copy. It isn’t. Maybe the Americans have problems but I feel they should be more imaginative and innovative than look to us.
