SHOULD THE QUEEN BE INVITED TO D-DAY?

French President Sarkozy has apparently decided that the 65th anniversary of D=Day, the second world war invasion of Europe to be celebrated on  June 6 is strictly a French-American celebration .  I believe President Obama will join the French President

This means that Sarkozy has neglected to invite Queen Elizabeth 11.

Never. mind that the Queen is the  only living head of state to  have served in uniform during World War 11.

Never mind that thousands of British soldiers died on the D=Day invasion

Never mind that if British and Canadian troops had not been involved, chances are there would be no celebration.

Or at least non without the words “Seig Heil”  attached to them.

Should the Queen be invited to the D-Day celebrations next week?

What do you thi nk?

    Remember Dieppe.

  2. She should bloody well have been invited. After all D day was caused by Frances failure to hold against the Germans and had not the British held the fort with Canadians, Australians and New-Zealanders, there would have been nothing for the USAers to rescue or to help them in the Pacific after 1942.

If it’s only for the French and Americans, it can’t be called a D-Day celebration, can it?

    Good morrow, all!
Has France surrendered? Is Paris burning? (actually, I find her rather pathetic and whiney…oh, you mean the city! my bad…)
Maybe Britain and Canada should simply crash the party, scarf the hors d’oevres, kiss that hot French First Lady and steal the wine before heading off to Berlin to party for real. If Sarkozy likes kissing American butt, that’s his fetish. It was British and Canadian troops that faced down the Panzers and pushed the Hun back to the Rhine. The Yanks were involved for, what, about a year in all in the European theater?

Yes, the Queen should have been invited to the celebrations next week. She was one brave chick. And I just learned that she worked as a mechanic during the war. I admire her. She did not hide and use her family to be protected and have special status. And she should represent Britain.

Yes, I remember seeing captured German films showing captured Canadian Troops walking down the main street in Dieppe with their hands held high in surrender whilst the citizens of the town stoned them. I also recall that about 4000 Commonwealth Troops gave up their lives on D-Day. At the same time Sarkozy’s parents were running from Hungary (a German ally) to Germany. (The acorn never falls far from the tree.) I think we should start removing the bodies we buried in France and return them home. That should keep the pot boiling for a few years.

    Hello everybody,

How can the French ever admit someone had more success that they did, or that they saved their ass because of ‘them’, especially the British. They have virtues but certainly are totally deprived of any sporting spirit.
